Share The Joy

To share the joy of writing with others is something I get such a buzz out of doing. To see a person understand playing with words and creating a story is exciting. I love the enthusiasm that lights up in them. Whether the story is short or long doesn’t matter. Nor does the genre. Writing and developing an imaginary world is fun. That’s not to say it might be hard work too. Serious writing is not suited to everyone. But … Continue reading

An Update On Me

I want to share an update of whereabouts I am with my latest story and my writing progress in general. Covid-19, lock downs, restrictions etc filled my last few weeks. I have been so caught up I have probably rambled on about what was happening in my life during this period. But I’ve not given what some of you have asked for. An update in my writing. And for this I must apologise. I believe I have mentioned before that … Continue reading

Reversal of Rights

I’m nervous about recently requesting the reversal of rights for three of my books. I’d noticed a distinct drop in sales for these stories over latter years. Okay, so my marketing/advertising, particularly this last year, has been less than ideal. I accept this as a contributing factor. But how to attract new readers to these older stories? One obvious suggestion is to re-release them myself. Hence me asking The Wild Rose Press for a reversal of rights for “Devon’s Dream”, … Continue reading

Taglines & Loglines

Taglines and Loglines Over the past couple of days I’ve been playing around with taglines and loglines for my next new release “Impossible Liaison”. Rather than risk getting it wrong, I resorted to good old Google to help me out with differentiating between the two. According to the first option which popped up: A “logline” is a (movie’s) concept boiled down to one or two sentences. A “tagline” is a short, clever one-off found on a movie’s poster. I saw … Continue reading

Memories – A Daughter’s Prospective

Merville’s Memories This week my amazing mother celebrated her 101st birthday. For over twenty years I have dreaded having to say farewell to Mum after a visit. Living so far away from her I have always been afraid each goodbye could be the last. That hug, that kiss, they could be my permanent farewell to someone I have tried (and probably failed in most part) to emulate my whole life. We are so blessed to still have her with us. … Continue reading

A Writer’s Defining Moment

My Defining Moment As A Writer Many of us can acknowledge defining moments when our lives change forever. Marriage, the birth of a child, or the death of a loved one are all common catalysts for change. As well as experiencing such changes I remember another very defining moment. I was sitting at the dining room table in Loree Lough’s Baltimore home, my first manuscript – now complete with so many red slashes and scribbled comments it would debilitate the … Continue reading

Writing Tips

Writing Tips From An Expert I’ve been re-reading an article with writing tips from someone who appeared to be quite expert in the field when he appeared at the Romance Writers of New Zealand conference last year. Despite having the flu, James Scott Bell managed to convey some very salient points. I’d slipped this article of his away under all the other paperwork on my desk, and it wasn’t until I did a little office cleaning that I found it … Continue reading

RWNZ Conference 2014 Through My Eyes

RWNZ (Romance Writers of New Zealand)Conference Last weekend I attended the annual RWNZ Conference. For one reason or another I had missed the last couple of years but had been looking forward to another weekend of total immersion in the writing craft. I was not disappointed. The worst thing about a conference where numerous workshops are held simultaneously is that you must miss some workshops that you would have liked to attend. This was the case last weekend, so I … Continue reading
